The Phong Nha Botanical Garden is located approximately 45 km from the city center, in Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province. It is a miniature version of the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park. Conveniently situated along Quyet Thang Road, it is about 10 km away from the Phong Nha – Ke Bang tourist center. Covering an area of 41.82 hectares, it implements two rare conservation methods simultaneously that are not commonly found in other National Parks. These methods include in-situ conservation of the biological diversity of the natural forest ecosystem and ex-situ conservation by collecting and preserving plant species from other locations.
Before entering the forest, visitors are given a tour of the exhibition house. This place showcases rare specimens of animals and plants that are characteristic of Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park. It serves as a repository for dried specimens used for scientific research and environmental interpretation.
Here, visitors can view a collection of specimens of unique and rare plant and animal species from Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park. There are also geological and topographical specimens, as well as samples of four-rayed coral. These serve as scientific evidence of the ancient geological and topographical system formed over 400 million years ago.
After leaving the exhibition house, visitors enter a vast garden spanning over 40 hectares. In the serene space of the old forest, groups of tourists follow one another into the woods. The small stone-paved path leads them deeper into the forest. As they venture further, the temperature drops, so even in the scorching midday sun of summer, the air remains pleasantly cool.
The highlight of the Botanical Garden is the breathtaking Windfall Falls. Originating from the Golden Stream, the waterfall stands about 30 meters tall. Visitors can pause on the first wooden steps to admire the cascading white foam of Windfall Falls, as beautiful as a watercolor painting. The forest is quiet, with only the sound of the waterfall blending with the calls of wildlife and occasional chirping of birds.
As you ascend the uneven wooden stairs along the mountain wall, you get closer to the foot of the Wind waterfall. To be able to touch the cool water flowing through the large rocks along the gorge…
Along with the beauty of the Wind waterfall, there is the mystery and danger of the tour route along the gorge. The journey into the Botanical Garden through the narrow and deep gorge is a challenge. It is for those who have courage and a desire for exploration, who enjoy adventure. Starting from the end point of the Wind waterfall, the gorge becomes narrower and deeper.
To venture deep into the forest, travelers must cling to a thick rope running along the edge of the ravine. Slippery rocks, hidden deep streams, and steep cliffs… all make the journey of exploration increasingly captivating.
Nestled peacefully under the shade of the pristine jungle, Golden Lake is the perfect spot for relaxation. Visitors can swim, camp, and unwind. After Golden Lake, continuing the itinerary, travelers can admire the majestic flamingos with their large size. Especially, they can witness firsthand the graceful dance of peacocks. One of the ten most beautiful bird species on the planet.
Farewell to the rugged path that follows the winding stream for a few hundred meters. Travelers turn left, following a small trail and ascending to the mountaintop. Along the treacherous and challenging path, they not only experience the thrill of conquering obstacles but also admire the rich flora with nearly 500 species of trees in Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park.
Among them, there are some rare tree species with a circumference of up to 300cm, such as the blue lim, lau wood, and huỵnh. Especially the presence of hundred-year-old Vietnamese Star trees with a circumference that can be embraced by three people. A newly named and scientifically classified rare tree species. It can be said that the Botanical Garden is a miniature version of the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park. With fascinating fauna, flora, and beautiful landscapes. Especially the feeling of conquering challenges and adventures through each point of interest. With a total length of about 4,000m for all tour routes. This place is truly an attractive destination for many tourists.
Alongside the stunning cave system that has created the brand “Kingdom of Caves” for Quang Binh homeland, there is a botanical garden with a cool mountainous space, diverse and rare plant and animal species. This is an attractive sightseeing and experiential destination for tourists visiting Quang Binh.
